Recently I posted a guide to show how to turn off the hover boxes / rich tool tips in Adobe CC, then someone posted a comment that made me realise I had been a little inaccurate so I wanted to correct this with the following guide – How to turn off hover boxes / tool tips in Illustrator & Indesign. The guide I had previously created really only directly related to Photoshop (the guide can be viewed here if you too find those hover boxes annoying – here’s how to turn them off).
Anyway… below is the ‘How to’, I have created a written guide and video.
Click here to see the written guide that will tell you how to turn off the hover boxes / tool tips in InDesign (CC).

Hello! InDesign CC 13.0.1 features the “Rich Tooltips” that you show in your Photoshop post (http://www.hockingdesignsolutions.co.uk/hover-boxes-adobe-cc/), but lacks the “Tools” Preference shown there (which I kind of expected)…
Turning off Tool Tips removes ALL tool tips (also as expected) — but I want to keep the Old School text-only tool tips while removing the obnoxious new Rich Tooltips. Is that possible? Thanks!
Hello Sixten,
Sorry I couldn’t reply sooner. I run the latest InDesign CC and it does not have rich tool tips as an option only the old school tool tips. I will explain below how to keep the old school tool tips in Photoshop and hopefully this might be the same process in the app you have, if not you could try updating your app which should remove rich tool tips or feel free to email me and I’ll try to help solve the issue. I may need a screenshot in that case of the ‘interface’ menu under ‘preferences’ in your InDesign. Let’s try this though…
In Photoshop to turn off rich tool tips and apply the normal ones you would:
1. With Photoshop CC open go to the ‘Photoshop’ Menu.
2. Select ‘Preferences’
3. Select ‘Tools’
4. Untick ‘Use Rich Tooltips’
5. Tick ‘Show Tooltips’
This would turn off rich tool tips and turn on the old school version. Let me know if that helps. If not feel free to email: donna@hockingdesignsolutions.co.uk
I can not turn tool tips on. I can get to the preferences, and check the tooltips box, but they wont come on.
Hi, sorry for my slower than usual response. Did you manage to find a solution? That is quite unusual as it should work. Have you tried restarting the program and trying again, checking the program is fully updated? If not (as frustrating as it is) when random bugs like that tend to happen I have found it quicker to uninstall & reinstall the program. Let me know if this helps/you found a solution.
