Change the full stop in numbered list InDesign CC
To be honest apart from adapting the style of the number and the font, size, colour, etc I’ve never considered changing the full stop that follows the number when creating paragraph styles for a numbered list in InDesign. It never really bothered me until recently. I was putting together a contact sheet and the photos needed to be numbered. I wanted to use a paragraph style for this as photos are always being added or removed and it saves updating the numbers and suddenly the full stop really bothered me – it would look much better without the full stop so I went on the hunt and found a solution.
So this is how to:

For the purpose of this guide I have already set up a standard paragraph style for a numbered list and applied it to some text.
Change full stop in numbered list – Written guide
For the purpose of this guide I have already set up a standard paragraph style for a numbered list and applied it to some text.
STEP 1
In paragraph styles select ‘Bullets and Numbering’ from the left hand bar.
STEP 2
With ‘Numbers’ selected under ‘List Type’, you can choose your format. This same process will work regardless of the ‘Format’ you choose. For the purpose of this guide I have selected ‘1, 2, 3, 4…’ just to demonstrate. Now it is the ‘Number’ section below ‘Format’ you will need to alter.
STEP 3
To change the full stop in the numbered list delete the full stop from between the ‘^#.^t’ in the ‘Number’ section and replace with the symbol you want. In this example I want my numbered list to look like this ‘1~ XXXXXX’ so I have replaced the full stop with ~ like this: ‘^#~^t’ you can also just add a space so there is no full stop and the numbers look like this ‘1 XXXXXX’ or a hyphen so the numbers look like this: ‘1-XXXXXXX’ and so on.
STEP 4
Once you have made your selection click ‘OK’ in the bottom right and your numbered list will update or you will see it once you apply it to your text. It’s that simple
